Action Alert: Speak Out Now About Proposed License Fee Increase

As we mentioned in last week's Capitol Corner, Senate Bill No. 9, "An Act Adjusting Fees for Occupational Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations" has been introduced and will be brought to a public subject matter hearing that the CTCPA will attend in order to speak out against the bill.

Proposed Senate Bill No. 9 would "reduce all existing fees for initial occupational licenses, certifications, and registrations by 75 percent and increase existing fees for renewals of such licenses, certifications, and registrations to account for the lost revenue."

Here's what we need from you:

  1. Write a letter (preferably on your firm or company's letterhead) addressed to the General Law Committee urging them to reject this proposal, and email your letter to Executive Assistant David Zoppoli at davidz@ctcpas.org. As long as the letter is addressed to the General Law Committee, we are able to submit it as testimony at that hearing.

(The more letters we can submit as testimony, the better!)

We will only get five days' advance warning before the public hearing, so please submit your letters as soon as possible.

  2. Email your legislators and tell them to reject the proposal. You can easily send an email right through our VoterVoice Advocacy Center; under "Find Politicians," just enter your zip code to get started.

In your email, ask your legislators to respond to you directly via email; when they do, please share their responses with David at davidz@ctcpas.org.

We've put together a number of bullet points to help support your argument, but the more you can personalize your passion, the more effective your argument will be. Tell your legislators exactly how the proposal will affect YOU and YOUR company, family, etc.

Thank you for your support as we work to protect the profession.
