State Board of Accountancy Issues Clarification on Attestation Work Advertising, Peer Review Enrollment

March 19, 2025

At the March State Board of Accountancy meeting, the issue of advertising attestation services and peer review enrollment was addressed. Previously, the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) prohibited CPAs from advertising attestation work unless they were enrolled in the peer review program.

The State Board has clarified that CPAs can advertise their ability to perform attestation work before enrolling in peer review. However, once they accept work requiring peer review participation, they must enroll in the program.

This clarification is crucial for our members, as many have been told to remove indications of their willingness to perform attestation work from their websites. The Board's decision allows firms to promote their services confidently while ensuring compliance with state law.

We appreciate the State Board’s efforts in providing this guidance and will continue to advocate for our members before the Board and the DCP.
