The Connecticut Society of CPAs (CTCPA) will honor 12 outstanding women at the CTCPA Women’s Awards event on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the TPC River Highlands. Awardees will be honored in three categories: Distinguished Service, Women to Watch, and Aspiring CPAs.

As the reporting deadline for the Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) approaches quickly, CTCPA has heard concerns from many members regarding the lack of clarity and guidance from the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and the January 31, 2025 deadline.

The Connecticut Society of CPAs (CTCPA) will host a Day of Giving social and collection drive to benefit Connecticut Foodshare at the CTCPA office in Rocky Hill on Tuesday, December 3 (#GivingTuesday) from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Participation is open to the public and includes complimentary coffee, hot cocoa, seasonal treats, and an opportunity to connect with CTCPA members and staff. At the June 6 Recognition Reception, Educators of Excellence ("Eddys") awards were handed out to Michele Ganon of Western Connecticut State University and, posthumously, to the family of longtime University of Connecticut professor and CTCPA past president Larry Gramling.

The Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CTCPA) honored Avon resident Drew G. Andrews, CPA of Whittlesey with the 2024 Jack Brooks Leadership Award at the CTCPA Annual Meeting on May 16. The Jack Brooks Leadership Award is presented annually to a CTCPA member whose personal efforts have advanced the accounting profession and strengthened the organization. It is named in memory of former CTCPA Executive Director Jack Brooks, a loyal champion of Connecticut CPAs.

CTCPA has joined AICPA and dozens of other state CPA societies to ask the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) to extend and expand the deadline for beneficial ownership information (BOI) reporting requirements, specifically for Reporting Companies Created or Registered in 2024.

This spring the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) announced an amendment to the Uniform Accountancy Act Model Rules that extends the CPA Exam testing window from 18 months to 30 months. This means that individuals will now have 30 months from receiving their first CPA Exam section passing score to successfully pass the remaining sections.

On August 1, the AICPA and all 54 State CPA Societies, including CTCPA, sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requesting DHS recognize accounting under the “T” for Technology in Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) education.

The program encourages participants to help evolve and grow their careers and industries, professional association groups and companies through dynamic sessions including Legislative Day at the Capitol, Personal Branding, How to Lead a Team Effectively and Efficiently, Business Finance 101, and a Lean Principles and Practices Team-Building Workshop. “The continued success of this collaborative leadership academy is a testament to the strengths and talents of these up-and-coming professionals and the organizations they represent.
